The Nelson/Nielsen family is from the area around Århus, Denmark. Mads Nielsen was born in Egå, Randers, Denmark. His wife, Karen Christensen (or Christensdatter), was born in the parish of Hundslund, Århus, Denmark (south of the city of Århus). Two of their sons, Niels Christen Nielsen and Frederick Glindemann Nielsen, came to the United States in 1877/1878 and settled in Brigham City, Utah. In 1904, Frederick moved from Brigham City to San Francisco. Mads and Karen's other two sons, Soren Glindemann Nielsen and Niels Carl Glindemann Nielsen, remained in Denmark. Mads Glindemann Nielsen, a son of Soren, came to the United States in 1906 and settled in California.
